A new store room

The little brick house you can see here, has been there for more than 4 years. Each year, I say i will extend it and make it into a proper storeroom.   Pedro my garden and all round handyman, started on Friday.  He is pretty much on his way to building up the walls.
Bricks arrived.,. slowly will disappear for the new walls
The size more or less of the little store room will be 20 x10..    I want to put some tiles on the floor.. and shelving.  Then i can buy more big boxes to put things away in.

                                       something like this.
winter clothes.  but mainly the garden furniture and sun beds.  I am getting excited, and looking forward to the end result.  I will just put a simple "lusolite" roof.
cement mixer ,borrowed from my son
 Foundations setting.

And my first ton of wood has been delivered. We are having wonderful weather.. no rain but getting cold.  I have the wood burner burning bright and warming the cottage.

Thank you dear friends for staying with me.   Dear Perpetua from "Perpetually in Transit" ...has been so very helpful.  I cannot thank her enough.

Hope you all had a very happy weekend.

will be catching up with you all during this week.

Thank you Sarah..for posting for me.   It seems that its a spelling error.. lets hope all is ok now.

  1. Val, I'm so glad to see this post appear and know that you're really back with your blog again. I'm pleased I could help.

Good storage is very important and having a well-built store-room like this will make life much easier for you. i love your blue skies - it's very cold and grey in Wales today.

  3. I like those brick I have never seen any like that, large but not heavy. Good dry storage is a good thing especially if you can keep bugs and mice out of it.

    1. Hello Sunnybrook.
Yes, the bricks used in Portugal, are different than ones used in England or America, Australia.. We have to use a lot of steel in our construction, due to the fact that we are on an earthquake belt here.
That's funny you saying that..because i said to pedro.. we need an air vent.. but it must be able to keep the mice and bugs out. that will be my next project to find something suitable.. i will then place mosquito netting over the vent.. it should work. it will have an aluminium door. Thanks for coming over.

  5. How nice that you are getting a new storage shed. Always needing more space to store things away! It's such a good feeling to become organized. It appears one of the doggies is helping out with the woodpile. Will you require more wood to get you through the winter? Is wood your only source of winter heat? I love firewood fires!

    1. Hello Sanda.
Yes, i will order more wood around feb.
Just taking it slowly with the store room. As it eats into the cash quickly.
I also have oil heating. I like to keep the house warm and cosy.
Thanks for coming by Sanda..and for leaving your comment on my last post.

  6. You will love your new storage shed, Val. I find as we get older, and create more memories, we need a good system to preserve what is special, as well as to store out-of-season things. That is a great stack of firewood, which looks a lot like ours - which lasts us for years and years before replenishing! Great to see your blog popping up again, dear Val. xxx

  8. I'm wondering if Pedro is like "my Benjamin". He has worked for me the last 15 or more years as my all-round handyman and gardener. He took such good care of my home while I was on holiday in Scotland.

So pleased you enjoyed Scotland Meggie. I have never been. Thanks for leaving your comment.. x

  21. Dearest Val, just read your comment on my blog! Thank you so much! I did think of you today as well: I read an article about Alentejo in a magazine. The pictures were marvelous and tempted me to travel there! In the afternoon I went to Lucerne and talked to a man who works at Globus store near the station. He said to me that he comes from Portugal (Orbido) and I told him about you and Alentejo. He said that in Alentejo there are many wonderful beaches and that I should absolutely visit. He even gave me an address of a website for finding a place to stay. Isn't that all fabulous? --- I am looking forward to a few days off work to spend with family and friends. Paul and I are going to London for three days next Thursday and will enjoy the Chrismassy decorations and atmosphere. Wishing you a warm and peaceful time with your beloved ones! Big hugs, Christa PS. The ladder is from a flea market, the stars are from Paul. :o)))
